There is a variety of downloadable software and learning management systems that have begun to use learning analytics to predict student outcome and help analyze a students learning habits.

The capabilities of using learning analytics to improve education can be thought of as potentially endless.  Here are some of the challenges that will occur as education moves forward with the every day implementation of learning analytics:

1. The purpose of education is to learn.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to define what learning is and what it "should" look like exactly.
2. Learning management systems can be faulty in their capturing of data. 
3. What data is important? Some data points are not accurately assessing data which is a distraction from the important data points.
4. Privacy issues on weather or not we should be so involved in a persons learning process.
5. Is it ethical to track every step a person makes while trying to learn just because technology gives us the power to do so.
